Boyd Regional Juvenile Detention Center works to meet female juveniles where they are and help them learn from past mistakes. The facility emphasizes having a problem-solving mindset and works with females to successfully achieve rehabilitation.
About Boyd Regional Juvenile Detention Center
Boyd Regional Juvenile Detention Center is a maximum-security facility. The facility was founded and built in 2004 and houses a maximum of 33 female juveniles. The facility works closely with community partners to offer different learning experiences for the juveniles including domestic violence awareness and education, and the Support, Teach, Empower, Protect, Serve, or STEPS program, which teaches coping skills and good mental health habits.
Hope Smith is the Juvenile Facility Manger at Boyd Regional Juvenile Detention Center, and she creates an atmosphere where the juveniles feel comfortable learning and growing from their past mistakes. Rehabilitation and reentry are key to her and her staff’s strategy.

Saturday and Sunday 2:00pm-3:00pm, Wednesday 6:00pm-7:00pm, or by special arrangement. Virtual visitation is available.
Hope Smith, Facility Manager
Hope Smith currently serves as the Juvenile Facilities Manager for Boyd Regional Juvenile Detention Center, a position she was appointed to in 2022. She has worked with the Department of Juvenile Justice since 2010. Prior to her time with the department, Smith spent seven years at a private childcare home. Smith graduated from Marshall University in 1998 with a degree in criminal justice.
Born and raised in Ashland, Smith always knew she wanted to work in the public sector. Her father was a police officer for 47 years and seeing his dedication firsthand inspired her to pursue the career she has chosen.Smith’s main source of motivation is a desire to make a difference in the lives of the juveniles she works with.
