About Breathitt Day Treatment
Breathitt Day Treatment was founded in 2018 after separating from Jackson Group Home. Previously the two facilities operated jointly. Breathitt Day Treatment continues to provide schooling to juveniles housed at Jackson Group Home.  Chris Banks is the Juvenile Facility Manager for Breathitt Day Treatment and has worked at the facility since it opened in 1999.

The facility can accommodate up to a total of 24 juveniles, with eight of those spots reserved for occupants of the Jackson Group Home. Students not in custody of the department can attend school at the day treatment center if ordered by a court. Additionally, transportation to this location is provided to students attending Breathitt County public schools.

Chris Banks, Facility Manager

Chris Banks has been with the Department of Juvenile Justice since 1999, and currently serves as the Juvenile Facility Manger for Breathitt Day Treatment, a title he has held for 12 years. Prior to his time with the department, he worked at Lee Adjustment Center, a private prison located in Beattyville, Kentucky. While employed there, Banks achieved a degree in Sociology from Morehead State University before applying to work with DJJ.

Banks has spent the entirety of his career with DJJ working at Breathitt Day Treatment and worked his way through the facility’s leadership ranks. Banks says he enjoys working with juveniles because they are all unique and have different facets to their personalities. This is what he says motivates him to continue providing the best experience for the juveniles in his care that he can.
