About Frankfort Group Home
Frankfort Group Home is one of three alternatives to detention facilities currently operating within Kentucky. It houses youth who would traditionally be held in detention centers but who fit unique criteria allowing them to be transferred to lower security placements, typically those who are still awaiting a trail but are in the custody of the department. This program began in September of 2021, and Frankfort Group Home was one of the first facilities to adopt this program.

Frankfort Group Home can accommodate up to eight male juveniles with emphasis being placed on assisting them go through trial proceedings. Therapy options are available to all youths, along with all the amenities of all other group homes.
The Frankfort Group Home was founded in 1990, and the Department of Juvenile Justice purchased the current building in 2001. Visitations are offered from 2-4pm on Sundays, and virtual visitation can be accommodated.

David Wimer, Facility Manager

David Wilmer began working for the Department of Juvenile Justice in 2001 at the bluegrass assessment center, until he transferred to Fayette Regional Juvenile Detention Center in 2010. He worked there until 2014 when he transferred to DJJ central office as an auditor, later becoming the branch manager of quality assurance in 2017. In 2021, he transferred to Frankfort group home to serve as the Youth Service Program Supervisor, and later becoming the facility manager in 2022. He continues to hold this position.

Wilmer says he originally was not looking to work in this sector and worked at a police dispatch center prior to getting his first job at bluegrass assessment. Once in the field however, he discovered he had a knack for it and enjoyed helping youth to become their best selves. He prides himself on his no-nonsense attitude, speaking on the same level with the youth he serves and telling them the facts of any given situation.
